Dr. Paul S. Saenz, D.O. a native of San Antonio, received his medical education at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX. He completed his Family Practice training in Phoenix, AZ followed by a Sports Medicine fellowship in Seattle, WA. He returned to San Antonio in 1988 and established himself as the city's first Primary Care Sports Medicine specialist.
He is the founding partner of Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio which is recognized as the pre-eminent provider of orthopedic and athletic medicine services. Dr. Saenz is board certified in both Family Practice and Sports Medicine and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio Medical School and the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He also is an adjunct faculty member of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Saenz serves as team physician for the NBA San Antonio Spurs, the San Antonio Missions Double A Baseball Club, The University of the Incarnate Word, St. Mary's University and several San Antonio area high schools. He was appointed to the medical staff for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and for the 1998 Goodwill Games in New York City. He served as team physician for USA Pentathlon at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. In 2010, Dr. Saenz was selected as the St. Mary’s University Distinguished Alumnus and voted as one of Texas “Top Doc’s” by Texas Monthly Magazine. In 2012, Dr. Saenz served as team physician for USA Track and Field at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey and was also appointed National Team Physician for USA Basketball. In that role, he accompanied the Gold Medal winning team as they participated in Pre-Olympic competitions in Manchester, England and Barcelona, Spain. In August 2015 Dr. Saenz was inducted into The National Hispanic Heritage Hall of Honor for his record of achievement and excellence in the area of Athletics and Education. Dr. Saenz remains active in the education of medical professionals by speaking regionally and nationally on a variety of sports medicine topics.

Dr. Ratner was raised in San Antonio. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He was a Sarnoff Fellow for Research in Cardiovascular Science while in medical school. He performed his post-graduate training in Diagnostic Radiology and was a Felix Bloch Fellow for MRI Research at Stanford University.
He is a physician entrepreneur and was in the private practice of Radiology for almost 20 years in San Antonio. Upon retirement from private practice he co-founded the Patient Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and empowering patients and caregivers to better navigate the healthcare system. Dr Ratner continues to chair The Patient Institute. Prior to joining the faculty of the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ratner served as the Stewart and Marianne Reuter Endowed Professor of Medical Humanities as well as Clinical Professor and Deputy Chair for Strategic Development and Socioeconomics in the Department of Radiology at UT Health San Antonio.
Dr. Ratner is a commercially-rated pilot, devoted cyclist and computer-guy. He and his amazing and beautiful wife, Varda, have two children and would be considered empty nesters but for their small army of loving and spoiled pets.
